Quilted Textiles Have Value! Print E-mail
Written by Cindy Seitz-Krug

No matter how well we try to protect our personal property we know that life happens and our favorite things can be surprisingly lost, stolen or damaged.  Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not recognize the value of a quilt and only consider them to be worth the cost of a blanket. Because professional appraisers are interested in protecting the value of quilted items we offer a written appraisal document to substantiate their value.

You may wish to consider getting an appraisal for:

• A family heirloom

• A quilt collection

• A quilt that travels to shows or exhibits

• A newly made quilt that contains a lot of materials and embellishments

• A quilt for sale

• A quilt for an estate settlement

• A quilt for donation

Kathy Lee-Smith is a retired California school teacher who has been interested in womens history for many years and a serious student of quilt history since 2001. She is a member of the American Quilters Society, the American Quilt Study Group, and the National Quilters Association. Kathy is a professional quilt appraiser and works in accordance to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practices (USPAP) set forth by the IRS and the strict code of ethics of the American Quilters Society. A copy of Kathy’s resume, including education and experience, will be available at the show.

The show special for a written appraisal is $35.00. If you wish to make an appointment before the show you may email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please include CPQ appraisal request in the remarks. You may also contact Kathy at 760-245-7179.
