Where the money goes…… Printing the Newsletter

Cost per newsletter using bulk mail, mailing 200 copies.
.50 printing two sheets
.25 fold/staple
.228 bulk mail rate
.077 bulk mail annual fee
.02 seal
.007 label
.085 ink to print labels
$1.167 cost per newsletter times 200 newsletters = $233.40

Cost per newsletter using regular mail rate
.50 printing two sheets
.25 fold/staple
.44 postage
.007 seal
.085 ink to print labels
$1.302 cost to print newsletter

$233.40 divided by $1.302 = 179 newsletters

Which means we can send out 179 newsletters using regular postage for the same amount of money that we spend to send out 200 newsletters with the bulk postage rate. Assuming we have 320 members, if we could get at least 141 members to get their newsletter via email then we would be spending the same amount of money we’re spending now on the newsletter. For each additional member over 141 who agrees to take their newsletter by email, we will be saving another $1.30 each month.

Just as an example, if we could get to where we’re only sending out 100 newsletters in the mail, it would cost us $103.00 instead of $233.40, and we would save $1238.40 over one year.

Newsletters & publication costs
I'm Secretary of the Friends of the Tehachapi Depot and I do their newsletter. Thanks for putting this article together. We should probably move to bulk mail soon as our mailing list is growing close to 200. Who do you use for printing--do you go to a local printer?
