May Lecture and Workship with Nadine Kirk

This month we are privileged to have Nadine Kirk come to our guild to present a slide show of contemporary and historic quilts incorporating the technique of Reverse Appliqué. These diverse quilts, spanning 200 years, include pieces from the International Quilt Study Center in Nebraska, molas from the San Blas Indians, pa ndau from the Hmong tribe, ribbon work from Native Americans, stained glass quilts, and contemporary pieces from a variety of quilt makers. Nadine will also bring a number of her own original pieces to share.

In the Friday workshop, we will be learning Nadine’s unique technique for reverse appliqué by machine. You won’t want to miss this class! Call Cindy Seitz-Krug (835-7065) or Deborah Mills (835-9257) to sign up for the class and to get your supply list. The cost for the workshop is $25. The workshop will be held on Friday, May 16th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. We will be holding this workshop at LaNita’s Clubhouse at the Royal Palms Mobile Home Park on Columbus Street.

2008 Kern County Fair Sept. 17-28

We still need ladies to help at the Kern County Fair. If you can volunteer to help receive the items, help with decoration, setting up the display or over see the quilts for an hour or two during the show please give me a call. With more help we can do a great job in seeing that the items are not only well displayed but we can better assist the public as they view them.

There is still time to enter a quilt or other artwork in the fair. The theme for this year is “Best of the West” The Fair Information Booklet will be out in June of this year. To receive your copy, call the Fair Office at 833-4914 or you may pick one up at the Fair Office at 1142 South “P” Street.
