Programs and Workshops Print E-mail
Written by CeCe Westerfield and Tina Jones, Program Chairmen

OMG! Judging from the response from Guild members during both February meetings, we all enjoyed Tammie Bowser’s presentation very much. It was met with lots of laughter, rounds of applause and ooh-aah moments whenever she held up another quilted photograph. What a talented lady and she was assisted by her lovely daughter, Angie, who was very good at “clicking the button”. The workshop on Friday was a huge success. As pictures were finished and held up for viewing, they were met with comments of “Oh yeah, there it is!” or “Oh, I see it”! There will be pictures of the workshop on the CPQ website. We have had a request to bring Tammie back for a Saturday class and signups have begun. More information on this workshop to follow….

We are welcoming Lyn Mann (http://www.quiltsbylyn.com ) to our Guild in March. She will be giving a lecture titled, “WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU SCRAPS”. This lecture and slide presentation deals with scrap quilts. Emphasis is placed on the importance of color, value and texture. The slides are followed by a show and tell of some of Lyn's scrap quilts and a question and answer period. The workshop following on Friday is “No Such Thing as an Ugly Fabric”. In this class, students will each bring squares of an ugly (or hard to use) fabric to share.  They will also bring a variety of scraps.  We will construct a simple scrap quilt while learning how to make any fabric great, depending on what you put with it.  A really fun day!!!  Many say this is the best class they ever had. This is a technique class, not a project class. Lots to learn including cutting, piecing and pressing. The picture above is an example of four different quilts made during Lyn’s workshop using “ugly” fabric. Juliet Granger has wanted to take Lyn Mann’s workshop for years after seeing her featured on Simply Quilts and says, “Apparently it is her most popular class and some people have taken it two or three times.” Lorna Quiggle is a friend of Lyn’s and describes her as a very nice person and an entertaining teacher. We still have lots of room in the workshop and look forward to seeing your name on the list of attendees. You can email me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or call me at 661-342-9130 to get signed up.   Click here to download the supply list. 19.40 KB

The month of April brings Cathy Van Bruggen (http://cathyvanbruggendesigns.com ) to our Guild. Her lecture on Thursday will be, “No Time to Sew”. The workshop on Friday will be a needle turn appliqué project titled, “Hummingbird Delight”. Cathy's inspiration for this quilt came from the hungry hummingbirds who visit her yard. They are always in search of luscious trumpet vines for a tasty treat. I had the pleasure of talking with Cathy at Road to CA and what a delightful lady! Workshop attendees will have the choice of purchasing a pattern ($10) and gathering their own materials or purchasing a kit ($30) which contains all the materials.   Click here to download the supply list. 465.76 KB

Cindy Seitz-Krug will be giving a trunk show at both May meetings and then teaching beginning machine quilting on the Saturday following the guild meetings. Cindy is an award-winning quilter and her quilts are a beautiful testimony to her talent. Signups will begin at the March meeting for this not-to-be-missed workshop.    Click here to download the supply list. 65.20 KB

Shhhh! A little bird told me that June’s program will be provided by another Guild member….this time from our own Stephanie McChesney! I will pass on more information as soon as that little bird sits on my shoulder again!

We try to offer a good variety of programs and workshops to our Guild members. If you have suggestions for future program and/or workshops please feel free to share with us…..
