Good morning,  Is the location for "Life Gives You Scraps" at the same place we have our meetings?  I'm sorry if I missed it.  I did go back to Jan. & Feb. newsletters & didn't find it.  I'm still treading water while getting familiar with the website. I am very excited to attend the meeting & meet you all.  Every summer I attend a "Hot August Nights" quilting day (12 Hours) in the Imperial Valley with my mom.  I spend tons of money on fabric & have never completed a quilt.  It's so much fun & worth it to be able to spend the time w/mom & my sister.  Everytime I talk to my mom she always tells me to finish my quilts.  Someday I will.  I think quilters call it a UFO?  Thank you & see you soon, Debi

Nice website.  I'm a newbie. This is my 1st blog. :) Do we bring our machines to the meetings, current projects, as well as block of the month?  Am I looking in the wrong place for dates (i.e. Life Gives You Scraps).  Any tips would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There's a great website called Quilter's TV (www.quilterstv.com) where you can watch videos of all kinds of great teachers demonstrating various techniques. I found this one by Tammie Bowser that those of us who took her class will find really useful.

Once you go to the website, click on the button below the video playing that says Browse Videos. Then scroll down until you find Fabulous Free Motion Quilting by Tammie Bowser.

Good luck, and I can't wait to see the finished projects!

Not sure if I was exactly in my right mind when I agreed to not only be Sheila's assistant for this year's quilt show, but also to take the reins (or the threads???) for the 2012 show.  Trying to follow Sheila around while setting up for a show is like herding cats.....if you can't run, you can't keep up with her. :-)  She was constantly in 3 places at once, and knows where everything is, right down to tacks and tape.  I was really exhausted after 2 days of setup and 2 days of running, running, running during the show itself.   If you weren't there, you cannot possibly appreciate how hard Sheila works on the quilt shows, and she has done 3 of them in a row!!  Applause, please!!!  She deserves a huge THANKS from every guild member who sees her.  This show went together very smoothly....we actually did not have any huge OOPPSSS's, no HUH-OHs, no tears, no hysterics, no misplaced quilts.  What we did get was really great attendance, wonderful, beautiful quilts, hard working people who gave of their time and talents to put on the best show yet, a truly GORGEOUS show, a truly smooth and quick takedown and quilt distribution, and Judy Betz's wonderful collection of works to amaze and delight us!!!!   Thanks so much, Judy!!  We loved your work.  What more could we ask for??  I am only hoping that I can do as well in 2012, and don't expect to do better.  If you have any comments or suggestions for the next show, or you want to (hopefully!!) volunteer to help with the next show, please talk to me at the meetings (evenings), or call me at 319-8286 (evenings).  I would love to keep up the tradition of breaking out of the previously wonderfully made mold for the next show.  Have you seen anything really innovative and fun at a show?  Tell me...we will look at all suggestions.  Thanks!!!  Janice

Fraser and I spent 5 days in Weaverville, Ca  last week.  He fished the Trinity River while I stayed in the trailer working on a Civil War reproduction quilt.  It rained almost the whole time we were there but that didn't stop us from visiting the local bookstore, museum and quilt shop.  The quilt shop is Textile Traditions (http://www.textiletraditions.com) and they were sponsoring a retreat the weekend we left or I would have definitely considered attending.  They also have a Quilt Show in October and the quilts are displayed outdoors down the main street.  This town is so picturesque....adding the quilts just makes it better!  Weaverville is in the mountains between Redding and Eureka.  Snow level was about 3000 feet and the countryside was just beautiful.  We even saw deer during one of our excursions.  The steelhead proved to be elusive but we are already making plans for next year's trip.
